Masterclass on Critical Discourse Analysis in Media Research

The Department of Informatics and Media, Uppsala University, is organizing a Masterclass on Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) in Media Research with Dr. Alice Nemcova Tejkalová, Director of ICSJ, Charles University, Prague.

Call for participation

PhD students and post-doctoral researchers from social sciences, with a specific interest in discourse studies are encouraged to apply for participating in the masterclass during which Dr. Tejkalová would discuss the application of CDA in the participant’s research work.

CDA in Media Research is a two-part workshop in the methodological application of Critical Discourse Analysis. In the first part, Dr. Tejkalová would explain the CDA methodology applied on the Czech media (in the case of Paralympic Games and athletes) and brief results of the research will be presented, while introducing the advantages and limits of the chosen approach. In the second session, participants are expected to prepare brief presentations of their research (approx. 10 minutes) describing their methodological approaches to the application of CDA to their PhD dissertations or research projects. Dr. Tejkalová would then discuss the research methodology with the participant.

Note that the number of participants that can be accommodated is limited, and therefore would be offered a place on first come first served basis. Although there may be possibility for some persons to attend the Masterclass as audience, details of which would be announced at a later date.

About Dr. Alice Nemcova Tejkalová

Dr. Tejkalová is director of the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism at Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague and a member of Rector's collegium at Charles University in Prague. She is a principal investigator of the Czech part of Worlds of Journalism Study project - www.worldsofjournalism.org.
